Eye Candy
(Written by someone who hate Twilight)

I really don't like that book Twilight.

No, really, I don't.

But I can understand why everyone else does. When I first read my own 'Twilight' story, which was incidentally ONLINE and written by a 16 year old, heck I loved it. I've been reading forever, so when I came across this site full of aspiring writers like myself, it was pretty exciting. You would not believe the potential some of these kids have up on there.

There was this one story about a girl who was raised by a gang of thieves who'd found her abandoned as a baby. I think there was a guy in there who was part of her coven who was super freaking hot (almost like you, cedric, i promise) and they were constantly fighting. And then another guy from some other gang who liked her, too, etc, etc.

Or the other story about this girl who's brother was murdered by the eldest son of this prestigious, rich as all hell family and the death of her brother tore her already crumbling family apart and she has to now live with a vacant mother who just wants to cry alone in a room, and a father who's become stoic and won't speak but plots every day for revenge. As remorse, the family of the guy who murdered her brother offer to pay full tuition to send her to the best academic school in the state, which also happens to be a private school where their OTHER son is like a god. This girl is so warped in her depression and now has to deal with the unwanted attention of the other brother.

Or that OTHER story about a girl who makes a mistake or something and then makes a deal with a demon. She promises if he grants her five wishes, she'll belong to him for eternity or something, I forgot. And it's crazy awesome how this demon fulfills all of her five wishes but does it with a sinister twist so in the end she realizes she was better off without the wishes and now has to find a way out of the demon's ensnarement.

Okay I may have made up some things in a few of them, but honestly nothing far fetched. I just can't remember exactly what each and every story was like because it was so long ago. But these are a pretty good summary for what the stories held.

BASICALLY, my point being that I've read a ton of stories; some unique and inspiring, others quirky and cliche, and some others... okay. Most of them were cliche, I'll admit.

In fact, most of them were damn well big fat cliches.

But the thing is, each author always put his/her own spin to the story. They all had their own writing techniques, different characters, and enough entertaining scenes for readers to not really give a rats' ass. And some just wrote mind blowingly well that the cliche part really didn't matter.

But back to my main topic; Twilight.

I guess the reason why I didn't enjoy it half as much as everyone else is because the plot, the scenes, the characters... I've read them all before. A long long time ago, yes, but I've still read it.

The save-bella-from-oncoming-van scene; I've read about twenty of these before.

The thugs-persuing-bella-and-edward-comes-in-a-sports-car-and-saves-her; I've read about fifty of these, too.

And over all, the basic plot being loner / new girl catches the attention of school resident infamous bad boy (or vampire, for the same matter). And then all of his family rejecting her. But surprise, surprise not two chapters later every thing is honky-dory.

Okay, let me just give credit to fictionpress here (the site with aspiring authors).

At least in THEIR stories there's some struggle. Not just with the whole i-want-to-be-with-you-but-we-cant aspect (which is what the one tracked Twilight is about) but with the whole family aspect as well. That was one thing that irritated me about Twilight. Edwards mom and dad just loooove Bella. Everyone wants to be Bella's best friend, yay. (Except for those two iforgottheirnames which I'm ACKNOWLEDGING).

Some writers on fictionpress would first and foremost make it hell for Bella to be accepted. If only, if only, to make it realistic for readers to show that she had to prove herself first. And in the end it's what makes the readers like the main character, you know? I know I was massively turned off, shall we say, when Edward's mom brought out balloons and streamers and started singing and dancing when she met Bella, or whatever the hell it was that she did.

I guess what I'm saying is I expected more.

The books were introduced to me first through an older sister of my friends'. I swear to God, the only reason I picked up Twilight from my library was because she was older (like 21/22?) so I figured she'd have a broader taste (idk why, don't ask) and the fact that she solemnly took me aside to tell me she 'swears by the books'.

Of course this is coming from my friend's older sister who worshiped Britney Spears and the Sailor Moon series since she was 16 until now but, you know. I should have known better.

And for those of you who also swear by the series, keep in mind that I am not slamming the entire series. I couldn't, because I haven't even read it past Twilight. I am therefore criticizing Twilight, and Twilight alone.

But all criticism aside, I am going to watch the movie.

Haha, funny right? Are you thinking I'm a big fat hypocrite at the back of your head? Well, quit D:

If not for the love of the books, than for the obvious reason that Cedric Diggory is one hot piece of ass. Shut up, you knew it was coming. If only Harry Potter had been as smokin'. But then again that wouldn't help any way because they all sucked at acting.

If you can't act, can you at least be drop dead fucking gorgeous? There's no other reason we would want to pay to sit in the theater to stare at you for two whole freaking hours.

And in the end, that's what it's all about isn't it?

Eyecandy ! :D
